An Introduction of Kinetic Control(KC) 簡介

Kinetic Control(KC) was established by the UK physiotherapists, Mark Comerford and  Sarah Mottram 20 years ago. It is a set of assessment and exercises tools through a low-threshold movement assessments for identification of the uncontrolled movement sites and direction, with the use of neuromuscular retraining in order to restore of pain control.

Meanwhile, overactive and disused muscles can be retrained by inhibition and activation training. Specific muscles training will also affect the central nervous system(CNS) results in restoration of movement selection by the brain and  consequently, a significant improvement of a patient/athlete's movement function and reduce the chance of recurrence.

Kinetic Control(KC) & upper cross syndrome KC與上交叉綜合症

Upper Cross Syndrome (UCS) has been a common musculoskeletal problem in global society .Due to the sedentary living style of people overall has in fact been a greater risk for someone to get UCS.

First of all, UCS is a muscle imbalance syndrome, which defined as a person having tight levator scapulae and pectoralis minor, major and weak middle, low trapezius and cervical flexors. These two pairs of muscle imbalance create joint dysfunction over the shoulder complex. Significant postural changes can be observed such as round shoulder, forward head posture or thoracic kyphosis. 

Thankfully, UCS may be able to be corrected by using Kinetic Control (KC) therapy.

For instance, trapezius muscles, including the upper, middle and the lower one, are important stabilizer muscles to maintain good biomechanical function of our upper extremities. Besides, scapular elevation and retraction are actions in Kinetic Control (KC) which considered being conducive to the activation of trapezius muscles around the shoulders. Thus,KC can assist our body to regain better postural control and gradually get rid of the UCS problem.



不過上交叉綜合症可以透過Kinetic Control 改善。在Kinetic Control 理論中,上,中,下斜方肌是重要的穩定肌羣幫助上肢維持良好的生物力學控制。與此同時,肩甲上舉和後收的動作於Kinetic Control 當中被視為有益激發以上穩定肌羣的動作。所以,利用以上動作引導肩甲骨處於良好位置能夠拾回更好的體位控制能力,逐少擺脫上交叉綜合症。

Kinetic Control(KC) and Neck Pain-Suboccipitals KC與頸痛-枕下肌群

Suboccipital muscles are combined by 4 different muscles. They are important craniocervical stabilisers to provide proprioception and input feeling into the visual and vestibular system, control craniocervical lordosis and small head movement. Dysfunction of these muscles leads to sensorimotor impairment, giving an improper kinaesthetic sense such as reduced balance and joint position sense. The altered oculomotor sense may also create dizziness among affected population.

Activation exercise of suboccipital muscles is considered to be important in the Kinetic Control(KC) concept. First of all, by inclining the body forward, this triggers the suboccipital muscles doing the extension actions, then with a side craniocervical flexion. Performing this exercise for 10 times 3 sets can achieve better activation effect.


Kinetic Control的概念中很着重枕下肌羣的激活。以下影片為其中一個枕下肌羣的激活訓練。以坐立方式傾前激發枕下肌羣進行顱頸伸展,然後再做一個頸側屈曲,此動作左右側頭為1次,進行10次3組能達至更好效果。
